Rent a car with driver
All of our drivers are experienced, helpful and most of all pleasant company. He will also do the game drives in the parks. The cost of hiring a driver is $45 / day – this also covers his meals and accommodation. You don’t need to arrange accomodation for him, as the lodges have facilities for the driver-guides.
The driver is responsible for the wellbeing of the car, and the security bond will no longer apply.
If you’re taking a driver with you into the national parks, the Tanzania National Parks Authority requires you to have your entrance permits paid in advance, so you won’t be able to just decide on the fly. If you book a car with a driver, we will help you by arranging the required park entrance permits for you in advance.

Hire a 7 Seater 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser
The 4×4 Safari Landcruiser is one of Tanzania’s best vehicles for a Safari, offering improved comfort and better versatility, allowing tourists to access Safari camps and lodges which may have challenging road conditions or as is the case nowadays, may only allow 4 by 4 vehicles within their wildlife areas.
This vehicle comes fitted with UHF Radio Call, game viewing hatches and additonal safari customization such as cooler boxes to carry drinks. This 4wd vehicle is not available for rental on self drive and the rate includes the provision of a qualified, expert Driver-Guide.
Special rates are available for hire duration exceeding 1 week.
Car Hire Rate for 2023 – 2024: US$ 259 per day including a Driver~Guide, all his allowances, Fuel for unlimited mileage based on typical Safari Itinerary [daylight travel only] and Taxes. Peak season eg July to August and 20th Dec to 3rd Jan
Hire a 25 to 33 seater Bus – Coaster or Rosa Buses for Hire in Tanzania
The Toyota Coaster or Mitsubishi Rosa medium sized buses seat anywhere from 22 to 33 passengers and are ideal for transportation or transfers for groups of passengers.
These buses offer comfprtable seats and Air Conditioning as well as large windows for excellent visibility. This bus is not available on self drive and the rate includes the provision of a qualified, expert Driver-Guide.
Special rates are available for hire duration exceeding 1 week.
Price US$ 150 per day within Dar-es-salaam, Morogoro, Bagamoyo or Tanga city limits including a Driver~Guide, all his allowances, Fuel for unlimited mileage based on typical town usage [daylight travel only] and Taxes. Peak season eg 20th Dec to 3rd Jan and other busier dates may attract a price surcharge.
Safari Roads in Tanzania
Roads in Tanzania, especially Safari roads in National Parks and Reserves often tend to be in generally poor condition and are a challenging drive, which is why self drive Car hire in Tanzania is not recommended by us. See photos below of typical road conditions while on Safari. While not all road require this, but it is best to rent four wheel drive vehicles in Tanzania for longer safaris.
